Museum of Glass 13th Annual Bird Lovers' Weekend
Iittala Birds by Oiva Toikka return to Museum of Glass (MOG) for the 13th consecutive year. The internationally-renowned glass creations from Finland’s glass giant Iittala are the focus of Bird Lovers’ Weekend, which will feature many opportunities to celebrate wild birds.
Friday, October 21
- 10 am – 5 pm: Birds by Toikka glass bird-making demonstrations by Iittala artists in the Hot Shop.
Saturday, October 22
- 10 am – 4 pm: Visit Tahoma Audubon’s table to learn about birds!
- 10 am – 5 pm: Birds by Toikka glass bird-making demonstrations by Iittala artists in the Hot Shop.
- 11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Enjoy a special visit with bird ambassadors from Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
- 1 – 4 pm: Join artist Larry Calkins and celebrate all things bird-related! Create your own wire bird sculpture and vintage bird ornament.
- 2 pm: Winner of Be a Bird Designer chosen. Children 12 and under are invited to submit bird designs in the morning, and a winning drawing will be selected at 2 pm and transformed into glass.

Sunday, October 23
- 11 am – 1 pm: Museum of Glass members’ brunch (free for members). The morning will also include an opportunity for members to have their bird signed by Iittala artists, Helena Welling and Juha Saarikko, from 11:30 am to 12 pm.
- 11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Enjoy a special visit with bird ambassadors from Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.
- 12 – 5 pm: Tahoma Audubon will be answering questions and live Finnish Kantele music will fill the Grand Hall throughout the day.
- 12 – 5 pm: Birds by Toikka glass bird-making demonstrations by Iittala artists in the Hot Shop.

Bird Lovers’ Weekend activities are free with paid admission to Museum of Glass. Free for MOG members.
During Bird Lovers’ Weekend, visitors can also take a limited-edition Ruddy Duck (pictured above) home to their nest. The newest Birds by Toikka design, the Ruddy Duck, is available at the Museum of Glass Store. The Museum will feature the first 50 birds from a limited edition of 300 Ruddy Ducks.
Birds handmade in the Hot Shop by Welling and Saarikko will be available for purchase on October 22 and 23.
